Enameled Bird Mango Wood Tray

This enchanting offering has been made using the ancient art form of enameling. Also known as 'Meenakari' in India, this craft is known to render gorgeous jewellery and decorative collectibles. The artisans are devoted to the craft and create a riot of colours that cannot be obtained from even the most sparkling of gems. The process involves colouring the surface of metals by fusing dazzling glass powder. Originating in Persia, this art form was brought to India in the late 50s and is a true test of the dexterity of the artisans. It is believed that enamel work was originally used in architecture to adorn walls, pillars and roofs, but the begums (wives) of the emperors developed a great fondness for the art and asked for it to be a part of their jewellery.
