The Ingredients We Refuse to Use

And What We Choose Instead | Vayu Earth®
Transparency is not a marketing strategy at Vayu Earth — it is a core value. We believe you have the right to know exactly what is in every product you bring into your home and onto your skin. And that means being honest not just about what we put in, but what we keep out.
Here are the ingredients we categorically refuse to use, and what we choose instead.
❌ Parabens → ✅ Natural Preservatives
Parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben) are synthetic preservatives used to extend shelf life. They are known endocrine disruptors — meaning they can interfere with your body's hormonal system. Studies have detected parabens in breast tissue, raising concerns about their long-term accumulation in the body.
What we use instead: Vitamin E (tocopherol), rosemary extract, and neem oil. These are naturally antioxidant and antimicrobial, extending product life without chemical interference.

❌ Sulphates (SLS/SLES) → ✅ Plant-Based Cleansers
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate create a rich lather — but at a cost. They strip the skin's natural oils, disrupting the moisture barrier and triggering dryness, sensitivity, and irritation. They're also known to cause eye irritation and may be contaminated during manufacturing.
What we use instead: Coco-glucoside and decyl glucoside — gentle, biodegradable cleansers derived from coconut and corn. They cleanse effectively and are safe for even the most sensitive skin.
Handmade Turkish Soap – Aloe Vera

A soothing, hydrating cleanser made with aloe vera to gently purify the skin without stripping its natural oils. Designed for daily use, it supports the skin barrier while delivering a soft, calm cleanse.
❌ Synthetic Fragrances → ✅ Essential Oils and Natural Botanicals
The word 'fragrance' or 'parfum' on a label is legally permitted to conceal hundreds of individual chemicals — including phthalates, which are linked to hormonal disruption. Synthetic fragrances are among the leading causes of contact dermatitis and allergic reactions.
What we use instead: Pure essential oils — lavender, eucalyptus, rose, sandalwood — blended with care. What you smell is exactly what it says on the label. Nothing hidden.
Handmade Turkish Soap – Chamomile

Infused with chamomile, this soap delivers a naturally calming aroma without hidden synthetic fragrance chemicals. What you smell is exactly what nature intended — nothing more, nothing less.
"If you can't understand the ingredient list, that's not your lack of education — it's a lack of transparency from the brand."
❌ Mineral Oil and Petroleum Derivatives → ✅ Cold-Pressed Plant Oils
Mineral oil is a byproduct of petroleum refining. While it creates a temporary sensation of moisture, it sits on top of the skin, clogging pores and preventing the skin from breathing. It offers no nutritional benefit to the skin whatsoever.
What we use instead: Jojoba oil, argan oil, rosehip, sweet almond, and marula oil. These are rich in vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants that genuinely nourish skin at a cellular level.

Rich in naturally occurring vitamins and fatty acids, argan oil deeply nourishes and softens the skin. A pure, plant-based alternative to petroleum-derived moisturisers that simply sit on the surface.
❌ Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives → ✅ Clean Alternatives
Ingredients like DMDM Hydantoin, Imidazolidinyl Urea, and Quaternium-15 slowly release formaldehyde into a product over time. Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen. These preservatives are still widespread in cheap body washes, shampoos, and lotions.
What we use instead: Naticide, derived from natural plant compounds. It is effective, biodegradable, and carries no carcinogenic concerns.
Handmade Turkish Soap – Honey and Goat Milk

A deeply nourishing blend that supports hydration and skin health using naturally occurring properties found in honey and goat milk — without reliance on formaldehyde-releasing preservatives or parabens.
❌ Microbeads and Synthetic Exfoliants → ✅ Natural Exfoliants
Plastic microbeads were banned in the UK in 2018 — but synthetic exfoliants in other forms persist. Many scrubs still use polyethylene or nylon particles that don't biodegrade and enter the water supply, harming aquatic ecosystems.
What we use instead: Ground coffee, oat flour, walnut shell powder, and sugar crystals. They exfoliate effectively, feel luxurious, and biodegrade completely.
Handmade Turkish Soap – Activated Charcoal

Formulated with activated charcoal, this soap draws out impurities naturally without synthetic exfoliants or plastic microbeads. A deep yet gentle cleanse that respects both skin and environment.
❌ Artificial Colourants → ✅ Botanically Derived Colour
Synthetic dyes (FDandC colours, DandC colours) serve no skincare purpose. They exist purely for visual appeal. Many are derived from coal tar and have been linked to skin sensitisation and, in some cases, carcinogenicity.
What we use instead: Turmeric for golden tones, spirulina for green, beetroot for pink. Natural pigments that are as beautiful as they are benign.
"We don't use ingredients we wouldn't be comfortable explaining to a curious eight-year-old. That's our standard."
